Police asking for public’s assistance in Rickey Walker homicide investigation

Investigators with the Homicide Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are again asking for the public’s help with the investigation of the homicide of 48-year-old Rickey Walker.

On September 1 at approximately 2:50 a.m., a man called Halifax Regional Police to report that he had been shot. Responding officers located the man behind John McNeil Elementary School on Leaman Drive. The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.  

On August 31 at approximately 11 a.m., Rickey was seen in the area of Portland Street near Prince Street in Dartmouth. He was last seen getting off a Halifax Transit bus in the 0-100 block of Highfield Park Drive at approximately 11 p.m. Rickey is described as a white man, 6’1’’, larger build, short grey hair and a grey beard and hazel eyes. Rickey was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and possibly carrying a black cloth reusable grocery bag.  

Investigators are interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen Rickey during this timeframe (11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on August 31), or anyone with information about this incident.
