Police charge man for a robbery in Halifax yesterday afternoon

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged a man for a robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon in Halifax.

At 12:14 p.m. on February 23, a man entered the Trove Boutique at 217 Herring Cove Road, went behind the counter and hit an employee multiple times in the back of the head with a wrench. The victim was able to push the suspect off who got away with a cash box containing an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect ran down McMullen Road and turned left onto Circle Drive. The victim was checked by EHS at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

Patrol members searched the area and K-9 located the cash box, which was empty and a white hat and gloves behind a residence in the 100 block of Herring Cove Road. 

At 3:10 p.m., the suspect was arrested without incident outside a business in the 300 block of Herring Cove Road. Later that evening, a search warrant was executed at an apartment a building in the 100 block of Herring Cove Road.

A 36-six-year-old Halifax man has been charged with robbery and assault with a weapon causing bodily harm. He is to appear at Halifax Provincial Court on April 6 to face these charges.
