A man who was caught driving at a high rate of speed yesterday in Dartmouth has been charged with stunting.
At 9:14 a.m., a member of the Halifax Regional Police Integrated Traffic Unit observed a speeding car travelling outbound on Highway 118 near Dartmouth Crossing. The driver, a 36-year-old Cole Harbour man, was caught on radar travelling at 162 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. He has been ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that’s automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. As a result, the driver is suspended from driving for one week. Upon conviction, there is a fine of $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to a person’s driving record. The driver was also issued a ticket for operating a vehicle without registration.
In their continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Integrated Traffic Unit continues to focus on speed enforcement. The Traffic Unit encourages citizens to watch their speed and be reminded that the faster you drive, the less time you have to react.
