A male youth who was caught driving at a high rate of speed today in Dartmouth has been charged with stunting.

At 12:46 p.m., a member of the Halifax Regional Police Traffic Unit observed a speeding car travelling inbound on Highway 118 near exit 13. The driver, a 17-year-old Mineville youth, was caught on radar travelling at 182 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. He has been ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling  more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. As a result, the driver is suspended from driving for one week and his vehicle was seized and towed. Upon conviction, there is a fine of $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to a person’s driving record.

In their continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Traffic Unit continues to focus on speed enforcement. The Traffic Unit encourages citizens to watch their speed and be reminded that the faster you drive, the less time you have to react.
