Investigators in the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are continuing the investigation into an assault that occurred Sunday night in Halifax.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on February 21, police were dispatched to an apartment building in the 6100 block of Lady Hammond Road regarding an injured man. There were a number of people in an apartment for a social gathering when there was a physical altercation and a man was struck in the head with an object. The 24-year-old man was transported to the QEII Health Sciences Center for treatment for what were described as life-threatening injuries.

At this point in the investigation, this incident isn’t considered a random act as investigators believe the people involved are known to one another. The man remains in hospital, and at this time, his condition is preventing officers from speaking with him. Investigators interviewed three women yesterday who were at the party. They haven’t been charged in relation to this assault, but have been charged on unrelated matters and have since been released. A 24-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of breach of a recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Another 24-year-old woman was charged with two counts of breach of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. A 22-year-old woman has been charged with assaulting a police officer as she spat on the officer. She is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing and investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact police at 902-490-5016.
