Police continue to investigate murder of Keya Simon

Today is the third anniversary of the murder of Keya Simon and the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the case.

At 11:20 p.m. on January 8, 2011 Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 117 Pinecrest Drive in Dartmouth. Upon arrival, officers found 19-year-old Keya Knita Simon unresponsive inside the front doors of the apartment building. Her 32-year-old sister had also been stabbed. Police believe a party was being held at one of the apartments at this location. A group of people known to the victims arrived at the party and an altercation ensued. The altercation spilled out onto the front lawn of the apartment building, resulting in both Keya and her sister being stabbed. Keya was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sister was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.

Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit believe there are people who have information about this incident who have not come forward. Police encourage those people, or anyone with information about this incident, to come forward. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 490-5016.
