Police have charged a youth in relation to a shooting that occurred yesterday in Dartmouth.

At approximately 10:55 a.m. Halifax Regional Police responded to a weapons call on Courtney Road in Dartmouth. A male youth was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of a gunshot wound to his leg.

At this point in the investigation, investigators believe the youth accidentally discharged the firearm resulting in his injury.

A 16-year-old male youth from Dartmouth is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court today to face charges of careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The investigation is ongoing, and members of the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact police at 902-490-5016.
