Halifax Regional Police is investigating two bicycle involved robberies that occurred in Halifax on Monday.
At 8:49 p.m. on October 31 officers responded to a robbery at South and South Park Streets in Halifax. A 45-year-old woman was walking through the footpaths behind the Victoria General Site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre heading toward the IWK Health Centre when her purse was grabbed by a man on a bicycle. The woman chased the man while he fled the area. The suspect is described as white man, 20 to 30 years of age, wearing all black clothing, including a black jacket, and a dark helmet. He was riding a dark coloured bicycle.
The woman was uninjured and located her purse before officers arrived and discovered a number of items were missing including ID cards, bank cards and a cell phone. An ID card and cell phone belonging to the victim were later recovered by officers.
This was the second robbery in the area on that day. The first occurred at 7:42 p.m. on South Park and Inglis Streets wherein a 20-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk when a man, driving a BMX style bicycle, ran it into her leg and grabbed her purse. The female was uninjured and her purse and contents were located a short distance away.
Given that both robbery incidents occurred in the same area and involve a suspect on a bicycle with similar descriptions, investigators believe the incidents are related.
