Police investigate serious assault

UPDATE

On August 16, at 12:10 a.m, members of the Integrated General Investigative Section of the Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 19-year-old  Dartmouth man at his residence without incident.  He will remain in custody over the weekend and appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court Monday morning facing the following charges: Aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, five counts of breaching a recognizance and breach of a  probation order .

On Aug 15, at 3 a.m., an officer driving in the 100 block of Main Street observed a woman lying injured on the sidewalk, being helped by a bystander. The officer stopped to render assistance and was informed that the woman had exited a licensed establishment with a man and another woman and while talking to each other, the man attacked the victim. The male suspect and the second woman fled the area on foot and were unable to be located by police. The 19-year-old victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening facial injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. 

The suspect is described as a black man in his twenties with a muscular build and tattoos on his hands. He was wearing dark jeans and a grey shirt. The woman who was with him had black hair and was wearing red pants.
