Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section are asking for the public’s help in connection with three separate arsons that occurred in the last two months.

On August 7, 2012, police received two reports of fires being deliberately set inside cars. One vehicle was parked in the 2600 block of Oxford Street and the other on Yukon Street.

On September 26, 2012, police received a report of a fire deliberately set inside another parked car near the intersection of Dublin Street and Young Street.

In at least one case, the car was left unlocked. Investigators believe the vehicles were entered sometime in the early morning hours and paper was set on fire, causing considerable damage. Small items were also reported stolen from inside the vehicles.

Citizens are reminded to remove all items from their vehicles and lock the doors upon exiting. Thefts from vehicles are generally a crime of opportunity, with the sight of items being a temptation for would-be thieves.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact police at 490-5016. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or texting a tip - Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
