Police Investigating Two Car/Pedestrian Collisions

Halifax Regional Police charged drivers in two separate car/pedestrian collisions last night in Halifax.

At 5:14 p.m., police responded to a collision at the intersection of South Street and Tower Road. A 57-year-old male pedestrian was hit in a marked crosswalk by a vehicle travelling westbound on South Street. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EHS. A 60-year-old Halifax man was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

At 6:36 p.m., police responded to a collision at the intersection of Quinpool Road and Robie Street. A 20-year-old male pedestrian was hit in a marked crosswalk by a vehicle turning from Quinpool Road southbound onto Robie Street. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital but later released. A 70-year-old Goodwood woman was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Summary offence tickets issued under section 125(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk carry a fine of $687.41 upon conviction.

Police would like to remind motorists to slow down and pay extra attention to their surroundings during inclement weather. There was heavy rainfall at the time of both collisions.
