Halifax Regional Police charged multiple drivers with speeding and one driver for stunting in Halifax yesterday.

The HRP Traffic Unit was monitoring traffic in the area of the 102 Highway as it approaches Bayers Road for speeding violations. Over a period of a couple of hours officers issued 26 summary offence tickets for speeding and one for stunting.

A member of the Traffic Unit issued a ticket to a 22-year-old Middle Sackville man for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 102 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for one week and the vehicle he was driving was seized and towed.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
