Police issue summary offence tickets for failing to follow Health Protection Act

Halifax Regional Police issued three summary offence tickets for failing to comply with the regulations set out in the Health Protection Act.

On December 31, 2021 officers responded to a report of a man in the common areas of a Dartmouth apartment building who was refusing to wear a mask as required by COVID-19 public health directives. Officers issued a summary offence ticket to a 56-year-old man under section 71 (1) (b) of the Health Protection Act for failing to comply with the act and its regulations, which carries a fine of $2,422.

On January 4, 2022 at approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Larry Uteck Boulevard in Halifax. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the occupants. Two occupants of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth, were not self-isolating as required under COVID-19 public health directives. The man and the youth were each issued a summary offence ticket under Section 71 of the Health Protection Act for failing to comply with the act and its regulations, which carries a fine of $2,422.
