HRM Partners in Policing would like to advise motorists to adjust their driving habits in light of today’s weather.

Since 8:30 a.m. police have received at least 15 reports of vehicle crashes or collisions across HRM. Treacherous driving conditions have resulted in reports of vehicles being unable to negotiate steep or sharply curving roads. The weather forecast is calling for more snow, followed by rainfall and strong winds throughout the day.

HRM Partners in Policing remind motorists to adjust their driving habits and be mindful of the change of road conditions throughout the day and overnight. A vehicle’s stopping distance increases when it’s slippery so allow extra space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. When approaching a red light or stop sign, begin stopping earlier to help prevent sliding into the intersection. Visibility may also be an issue. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until the vehicle comes to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road.
