Police lay firearms and drug trafficking charges

Police laid firearms and drug trafficking charges after a search of a residence in Halifax last week.

At approximately 5 a.m. on October 27, members of the Quick Response Unit and the Emergency Response Team conducted a search of a residence on Kingsmere Court in Halifax in relation to an ongoing investigation. Officers arrested two people at the scene and seized two loaded firearms, over 400 grams of cocaine, in excess of 2,000 opioid pills and approximately $17,000.

Jordon Lawrence David Cooper, 32, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today and Kaitlyn Jean Burns, 29, is scheduled to appear at a later date to face charges of:

  • Possession of a firearm/prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime (x2)
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm   
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon or ammunition without a license
  • Possession of a firearm without a license or certificate (x2)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (x2)
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x2)
  • Storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations (x2)
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Tampering with the serial number on a firearm
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000   

Cooper is also facing the following charges in relation to the search:

  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (x4)
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon or ammunition without a license
