HRM Partners in Policing wishes citizens a safe and Happy New Year.

Extra officers will be working tonight as part of the New Year’s Eve festivities. Police will also continue with Operation Christmas which involves random checkpoints throughout HRM to catch impaired drivers and ensure road safety in our community. As part of this year’s campaign, officers in HRM have charged 76 people with impaired driving so far in the month of December alone.

Police encourage citizens to plan ahead for transportation this New Year’s Eve by arranging for a designated driver, taking advantage of Metro Transit’s free bus and ferry services from 8:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. (see www.halifax.ca for full details) or taking a cab. Most importantly, HRM Partners in Policing reminds citizens to drink responsibly. If you drink, don’t drive!
