Police Release Third Quarter Crime Stats

As a follow-up to today's Board of Police Commissioners’ meeting, HRM Partners in Policing are releasing the 2012 third quarter crime statistics. Overall crime is down over 5.6 per cent when comparing the first three quarters of 2012 to the same period in 2011.

Violent crime is down seven per cent and we are seeing that the level of homicides is slightly down with a decrease of one over the same period last year. Attempt homicides were up (five versus three last year) but the robbery rate is down by 16.4 per cent. Property crime has fallen over 9.5 per cent, with decreases in break and enters (30.4 per cent), frauds (30.3 per cent) and stolen motor vehicles (9.7 per cent). Thefts over $5,000 are also declining with a 10 per cent decrease.
