As a follow-up to yesterday’s Board of Police Commissioners’ meeting, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Halifax District RCMP are releasing the 2014 year-end crime statistics. Overall crime is up 0.74 per cent when comparing 2013 to 2014.

Violent crime is down (-5.18), with decreases in homicides, attempted murders, robberies and assaults. Property crime is down marginally (-1.56), due to decreases in break and enters and theft of vehicles and increases in theft over $5,000, possession of stolen good and frauds. Please note that all of these statistics are based on comparing 2013 to 2014.

HRP and Halifax District RCMP remain committed to our crime reduction model of policing which, over the last several years, has enabled us to see either decreases in crime or only slight increases.
