Police Release Year-end Crime Stats

As a follow-up to today’s Board of Police Commissioners’ meeting, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Halifax District RCMP are releasing the 2015 year-end crime statistics. Overall crime is down in excess of seven per cent when comparing 2014 to 2015.

Violent crime has held relatively steady (-0.77 per cent), with increases in homicides (6 homicides in 2014 versus 9 in 2015) and robberies, and decreases in attempted murders and assaults. Property crime is down (-12.27 per cent), with decreases in theft of vehicles, thefts, possession of stolen good and frauds, and a slight increase in break and enters. Please note that all of these statistics are based on comparing 2014 to 2015.

Partners in Policing are pleased that the crime statistics have decreased over the last year and remain committed to our crime reduction model of policing.
