With the upcoming Natal Day weekend, HRM Partners in Policing are reminding motorists about events which will cause traffic congestion and also encouraging safe driving.

On Monday, August 6, the 117th Annual Natal Day Parade is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. It will follow the same route as in years past, starting on Novalea Drive, travelling down Gottingen Street, crossing the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, along Wyse Road, down Alderney Drive onto Prince Albert Road and finishing at Sullivan's Pond. The route will be closed as the parade passes through and motorists should expect delays.

There are several events this weekend that will result in closures to the MacDonald Bridge.

The Halifax Harbour Bridges Natal Day Fireworks are on Saturday night and the bridge will be closed starting at 3 p.m. for bikes and pedestrians and 7:30 p.m. for vehicle traffic. The bridge should reopen to all traffic at approximately 12 a.m. and during the closure there will be a shuttle service available to bike and pedestrian traffic. The Maritime Heart Centre MACPASS Miles is on Sunday and the bridge will be closed to vehicles from 9:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. The 2012 Natal Day Parade and the Halifax Harbour Bridges 30th Annual Bridgewalk take place on Monday and the bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

With all the activities planned, police expect heavier then usual traffic on our roads this weekend. Motorists are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations. Pedestrians are also reminded to use crosswalks when crossing the street and to work in partnership with drivers to ensure that HRM streets are safe for everyone.

HRM Partners in Policing wish everyone a fun and safe Natal Day weekend.
