Halifax Regional Police is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a man who exchanged fake rolls of $2 coins for cash.
Between February 25 and March 25, an unidentified suspect attended three local businesses and exchanged several rolls of $2 coins for cash. Sometime after the suspect left the business, an employee discovered that the front and back of each roll contained a toonie while the rest of the roll was made of metal washers similar in size and weight to a $2 coin. Police are aware of at least one other attempted incident where the suspect departed the business with his rolls when the clerk attempted to open them. Losses to the involved businesses are in the thousands of dollars.
The suspect is described as a light complexion black man in his twenties, 6’, 180 lbs., with facial hair on his upper lip and chin area. On one occasion, he was wearing a light gray puffy jacket with a black New York Yankees tuque and on another, a black jacket with a black Bench tuque. The suspect was captured on video at two of the businesses.
