Officers are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man who approached two children yesterday in Halifax.

At 5:30 p.m., an 8-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother were playing basketball in their driveway in the 6700 block of Edward Arab Avenue. A man approached the pair and engaged in conversation with the girl, asking her name and what grade she is in. He complimented the girl on her basketball abilities and even took a shot at the net. When the children’s mother came outside to see what was going on, the man acknowledged her, got into his vehicle and drove away. This incident was reported to police this afternoon.

The suspect is described as a white man in his forties with a thin build and short brown hair. He was wearing a dark thin jacket and may have been walking a black dog in the yard of Westmount School before approaching the children. He was driving a dark station wagon, similar to a Subaru Forrester.
