Three youths are facing multiples charges after an incident earlier today in Halifax.

At 3:45 a.m., officers responded to the McDonald’s restaurant at 6324 Quinpool Road after someone overheard three youths talking about having a firearm with them. Several officers arrived on scene quickly and arrested them without incident. Officers recovered a plastic gun along with several stolen items and tools from the youths. These items led officers to Bloomingdale Terrace where they discovered a vehicle that had been broken into and numerous items stolen.

Two 17-year-old youths and a 16-year-old youth, all from Halifax, were held overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court later today. They are facing charges of theft, possession of stolen goods, possession of break-in tools and numerous breaches of court orders. Two of the youths were also found to be in breach of court imposed curfews.

Police would like to remind citizens that thefts from vehicles are generally crimes of opportunity, with the sight of items being a temptation for would-be thieves. Citizens should remove all items from their vehicles and lock the doors upon exiting. If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in your vehicle, locked them in the trunk out of plain view before arriving at your destination. Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles should report it to police immediately at 490-5020.
