Advisory re Counterfeit Bills

The HRP/RCMP Integrated Financial Crime Unit is advising local businesses and citizens of the possibility of counterfeit bills in our area.

Over the last week, there have been four cases where someone has passed counterfeit bills. Three cases involved $50 bills and the fourth case involved a $20 bill. All four bills were from the Scenes of Canada Series. Investigators are working on this matter and they believe that at least three of the cases are connected.

The Financial Crime Unit reminds business owners of the importance of taking a close look at any cash before accepting it as tender. Police should be contacted immediately if store keepers come into possession of a bill they believe is counterfeit, or if someone attempts to pass a bill that appears counterfeit.
