Halifax Regional Police has concluded the investigation into a fatal collision that occurred last year.

On February 7, 2014 at 7:37 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Barrington Street, under the A. Murray MacKay Bridge in Halifax. A tractor-trailer was travelling south on Barrington Street when the trailer part of the rig became separated from the tractor. The trailer crossed the center line and collided head-on with a minivan travelling north. The 40-year-old male driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The lengthy investigation, conducted by the Collision Investigation Unit, determined that the driver of the tractor-trailer was operating the vehicle in a careful and prudent manner and had conducted all appropriate safety checks on the rig prior to starting his day. The tractor and trailer were also found to be in compliance with provincial regulations. Therefore, no charges will be laid in relation to this investigation.
