Update – Suspicious Circumstances Not Suspicious After All

Police have determined that suspicious circumstances regarding possible debit machine tampering are, in fact, not suspicious after all.

On July 18, Halifax Regional Police responded to suspicious circumstances at a business and learned that two well-dressed men entered the business, claimed to be representing a debit machine service provider and asked questions about the store’s machines. The manager became suspicious and asked the men to leave and subsequently reported the matter to police. Through the investigation, officers determined that the men had visited three other businesses in the area, claiming to be from different financial institutions. They were turned away from each business.

Following the public warning by police earlier today about this situation, officers have determined that these sales people are representing a legitimate business and this is not a scam. We apologize for any confusion this situation has caused and thank the public, particularly local merchants and business associations, for their assistance in this matter.
