Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged a man in relation to a vehicle fire that occurred last night in Halifax.
At 10:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of vehicle fire in the 2300 block of Maynard. Street. Police were informed that a male had been observed inside the vehicle moments before the fire started and had fled towards Gottingen Street. The male was arrested moments later without incident near the scene and found to be in possession of stolen property taken from the vehicle.
Thirty-nine-year-old Shawn St. Claire McOnie of Halifax was held in custody overnight. He appeared in Halifax Provincial Court this morning to face charges of arson, theft under $5000, possession under $5000, breach of probation and breach of a recognizance times three.
