A man wanted in connection with a break and enter that occurred in Halifax in January has been arrested.

On January 1 at 5:40 a.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a break and enter in progress on Connor Lane in Halifax. A resident called police after a man broke the front door of the residence and then fled the area on foot with a stolen cell phone. Officers’ attempts to locate him were unsuccessful. The resident was not injured and this was not a random incident.

On January 16, an arrest warrant was issued for 24-year-old Nicco Alexander Smith of Dartmouth in relation to this investigation. He has been charged with break and enter, possession of stolen goods under $5,000 and four breaches of previously imposed court orders. A media release asking for the public’s assistance in locating Smith was issued on February 27.

Yesterday, officers assigned to the East Quick Response Unit arrested Smith without incident at a residence on Churchill Court in Dartmouth. He was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today.
