Wanted: Training Sites for HRP’s Emergency Response Team

The Halifax Regional Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) is seeking our community’s help.

ERT officers are looking for new opportunities for free or minimal-cost training sites from within the public and/or private sector in HRM, specifically vacant buildings and/or buildings scheduled for demolition. They will use these sites for tactical training, including scenario-based training on how to respond to barricaded persons, hostage takings, active aggressors/shooters, building search tactics and more.

“We’ve used vacant buildings and soon-to-be demolished buildings in the past and the experience has been invaluable for our ERT officers. Securing new training sites allows for realistic training scenarios that simply couldn’t be replicated in an occupied building or in our training facility,’ says Inspector Lindsay Hernden.

Interested in offering up your building for police tactical training? Contact Halifax Regional Police by sending an email to hrptraining@halifax.ca with your name, phone number and information about the building you have available for ERT training purposes.
