Last night at 9:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man holding a knife to his own throat near Queen Street and Wentworth Street in Dartmouth.

Several patrol units responded to the scene and located the man. As a safety precaution, the scene was contained and the street shut down to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The officers attempted to negotiate with the man in an effort to de-escalate the situation, however the man was unresponsive to police efforts to communicate with him. It appeared at one point that the man was about to plunge the knife into his throat and the on scene police supervisor gave the order for a conducted energy weapon (CEW) to be deployed. The suspect was immobilized and taken safely into custody. The 46-year-old man was taken to hospital for a medical assessment.

This matter remains under investigation at this time.
