Halifax Regional Police responded to 714 calls for service over the weekend. One notable incident is as follows:
Police charge man with assault with a weapon and property damage
On June 6 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 5800 block of Spring Garden Road in Halifax.
An unknown man approached a group of construction workers and attempted to show them sexually inappropriate pictures on a cellphone. When they refused and attempted to usher him away, the man tried to instigate a fight. The man then punched one of the workers and struck him in the head with the cellphone. The man then threw a rock through a pane of glass before fleeing the scene on foot.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., officers located and arrested the suspect.
The 29-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of assault with a weapon and property damage.
