Thanksgiving weekend traffic checkpoint
On October 12, Halifax Regional Police patrol officers conducted a proactive traffic checkpoint at the Armdale Roundabout in Halifax, from 2:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.. The checkpoint resulted in 9 impaired driving related offences, including:
- 2 drivers charged criminally with impaired operation of a conveyance. An arrest occurs when a driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over of 80 mg%
- 7 drivers issued 7-day licence suspensions for having a blood alcohol concentration between 50 mg% and 79 mg%
In total, 10 vehicles were seized, including the 9 above and 1 for multiple motor vehicle infractions.
A summary offence ticket was issued to another driver who was not impaired but had an open alcohol container in the vehicle.
Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs puts everyone in danger. If you have information on an impaired driver, please call 911.
