HRM Partners in Policing would like to remind citizens not to leave vehicle keys in their vehicles.

Earlier this month, police received four reports of thefts from vehicles in the Spryfield area where vehicle keys were among the items stolen. In three cases, the vehicles were stolen and in the fourth, the suspect(s) attempted to steal the vehicle but were unsuccessful. On August 16, a 14-year-old male youth was arrested and charged in connection with these incidents. He faces a total of 18 charges including trespass by night (5 counts), theft of a motor vehicle (3 counts), possession of stolen property over $5,000 (3 counts), theft under $5,000 (2 counts), possession of stolen property under $5,000 (2 counts), attempted theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and property damage.

Citizens are reminded not to leave anything of value in their vehicles, especially keys that will operate that vehicle or another parked at the same location.
