Halifax Regional Police responded to 737 calls for service over the weekend. Two notable incidents are as follows:
Police conduct impaired driving traffic stop
On May 31, officers conducted an early morning traffic checkpoint on the Dartmouth side of the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge to combat impaired driving. Between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., officers encountered four impaired drivers.
Within half an hour:
- A 32-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance. An arrest occurs when a driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over of 80 mg%
- Two drivers were issued 7-day licence suspensions for having a blood alcohol concentration between 50 mg% and 79 mg%
- One driver was issued a 24-hour licence suspension for being a novice driver and having a level of alcohol in their system under 50 mg%
All four vehicles were seized.

Police recover stolen motor vehicle
On June 1 at approximately 2:10 a.m., officers observed a vehicle, believed to be stolen, stopped on the side of the road on Dunbrack Street, near Highway 102 in Halifax. A man was seen leaving the vehicle and heading into a nearby wooded area.
With assistance from the K9 Unit, officers located and arrested the suspect at approximately 3:20 a.m.
The vehicle was later returned to the owner.
Ryan Calvin MacDonald, 29, appeared in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of possession of stolen property over $5000.00, operation of a conveyance while prohibited and bail violations (x2).
