Police have charged two men after a vehicle pursuit last night.
On December 3 at approximately 9:10 p.m., officers observed a vehicle on Windmill Road in Dartmouth with a license plate not registered to the vehicle. Officers activated emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The driver did not stop, began to speed up, and fled from police.
The vehicle travelled across the MacKay Bridge and onto the Bedford Highway on the wrong side of the road. It travelled up Bayview Road and continued onto Lacewood Drive where it struck another moving vehicle and a median near Dunbrack Street. The vehicle then came to a stop and four occupants exited and fled on foot.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers arrested three of the vehicle’s occupants. One of the three occupants was released without criminal charges. A fourth occupant fled has not yet been located.
There were no reports of physical injuries during the incident.
Franklin Dale McKay, 36, is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Flight from peace officer-Failure to stop motor vehicle or vessel while being pursued
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
- Failure to stop after an accident
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
A 38-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date to face charges of:
- Resist peace officer
- Failure to comply with condition of release order (x2)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00 (x2)
- Theft under $5000.00 (x2)
The investigation is ongoing.
