For the School Crossing Guard, you will be required to provide support at various locations in three geographic locations:
- Dartmouth and Eastern Passage
- Halifax and Fairview, Clayton Park
- Bedford & Sackville

Responsibilities of a crossing guard
Crossing guards are friendly and enthusiastic, work independently as a member of a larger team and have a love of children and the safety of others.
In addition to adding visibility to busy pedestrian crossings, crossing guards:
- Act as safe escorts for elementary school children crossing busy crosswalks on their way to school;
- Observe traffic to assess the appropriate time to stop vehicles for pedestrians to cross safely (or act as escort in the event of crossings with pedestrian signals);
- Provides clear instructions to children on when and how to safely cross the road;
- Use handheld stop signs to effectively control vehicle traffic to help safe crossings;
- Adhere to and promote proper policies and procedures related to crosswalk operations;
- Abide by pedestrian traffic laws at the crosswalk; and,
- Report any problems or safety concerns arising at their assigned crosswalk to the Crossing Guard Supervisor or Program Manager
- Crossing guards work casual and part-time hours, Monday through Friday between two to three-and-a-half hours per day.
- Work locations vary as outlined above.
- Hourly rate is $17.75.
- Successful applicants are required to pass a criminal record and vulnerable section screening check.
