Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Water has successfully completed its repairs on the Lake Major dam and residents have been notified that they can return to their homes starting at 5 p.m. today, Jan. 17.

Traffic barricades will be pulled from all the roads and bridges at 5 p.m., except those on Lake Major Road and at the intersection of North Preston Road and Johnson Road. Those barricades will be removed at 7 p.m. tonight to allow crews time to remove their equipment and exit the work site.

The Route 61 through North Preston will remain on a detoured route until the barricade on Lake Major Road is lifted. Detour information is on Halifax Transit’s service disruptions page.

The Halifax Regional Municipality, Halifax Water and Halifax District RCMP would like to thank residents, emergency management officials, the Canadian Red Cross, ground search and rescue volunteers and everyone involved for their cooperation, dedication and patience over the past 24 hours.

If residents have any further questions, they are encouraged to call the municipality’s Citizen Contact Centre at 311.
