Volunteering with the Municipal Government

Volunteering on municipal boards and committees

Regional Council has various advisory boards and committees who hold meetings to review and provide advice to staff and Regional Council, community councils or standing committees. Some of these boards, committees, and commissions include citizen volunteer members. Are you interested in volunteering? Find out what positions are available for volunteers.

Volunteer firefighter recruitment

The Halifax region’s 500+ strong volunteer firefighter corps makes it the largest composite fire department in Canada. Volunteers respond to about 3,000 emergency calls a year throughout the municipality. Members are recruited from all areas of the municipality. For information on volunteer firefighter recruitment please contact Wendy Shulman, Volunteer Firefighter Program Manager, at 902-490-5530 or by email at volff@halifax.ca.
