Halifax Regional Municipality is committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. We strive to ensure that all applicants can fully participate in all stages of the recruitment process.
Accommodations during the recruitment process can be implemented based on the protected grounds of discrimination outlined in the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act, should they be required.
If you require an accommodation(s), please feel free to contact your recruiter or email@example.com. All information received in relation to an accommodation will be kept confidential.
- What is an accommodation and why would I ask for one?
An accommodation is a specific arrangement made for an individual, so they can fully participate in a recruitment process or work environment, where barriers may exist. Accommodation requests must be related to the protected grounds of discrimination as outlined in the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.
- When should I request an accommodation?
You can request an accommodation(s) at any time during the application process, recruitment process, or while you are employed.
When you apply for a position, the online application system has a section which allows you to indicate if an accommodation is required. These requests can also be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Accommodation requests can also be submitted to a member of the hiring team as soon as you are invited to participate in testing or interviews. Please let the hiring team know what accommodation(s) you may require, and they will be happy to assist you. Additional information or documentation may be required to accommodate your needs.
If you are a successful applicant and hired, and you know that you will need an accommodation(s) immediately upon hire, please discuss this with HR or your new manager or supervisor as soon as possible so that they can begin the accommodation process. At any point during your employment, you may discuss your need for an accommodation(s) with your manager or supervisor.
