Competitive salary and benefits

The municipality regularly surveys the market for salary information to stay competitive.

All permanent, full-time—and some part-time—positions have a group benefits package available including medical, dental, group life, and disability insurance. The benefits vary depending on the employee group (union or non-union). Group benefit contributions or premiums are shared between plan members and the municipality.

The municipality also offers a comprehensive defined benefit pension plan  to all eligible employees. This type of pension plan is based on your years of pensionable service and your best three-year average salary. You can better prepare for your retirement because you can estimate your future pension income. The plan also provides you with a specified income upon retirement, regardless of how long you live or market conditions. Plan contributions are shared between plan members and the municipality.
