August is Acadian Heritage Month
In 2023 the Province of Nova Scotia proclaimed August as Acadian Heritage Month. The theme of 2026 is Building Connections, Celebrating our Voices.
National Acadian Day: August 15
Since 1881, Acadians have celebrated National Acadian Day on August 15. It is a day marked by colourful community festivals and family events, especially the tradition of “Tintamarre”: people march through the streets in their communities, making noise as they go to demonstrate the vitality and solidarity of the Acadian community.
Grou Tyme 2026 in Halifax
Grou Tyme is Acadian slang for "party time".
Grou Tyme Festival 2026: August 13-15
Day 1
When: Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026
Where: Foundation Wharf, Halifax Waterfront
- 1 to 2:30 p.m. | "P'tit Tyme" show with students from CSAP
- 12 to 3:30 p.m. | Games and activities (noise makers, Acadian-themed face painting, outdoor games)
- 7 p.m. | Concert hosted by Anika Lirette featuring Les Bluecharms, Jacques Surette, 6 Hearts.
Day 2
When: Friday, Aug. 14, 2026
Where: Grand Parade
- 12 to 1 p.m. | Acadian flag raising ceremony with bites by Chef Joey Martin
Day 3
When: Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026
Where: Stillwell bar, Barrington Street
- All day | Special menu by Chef Joey Martin
- 5-7 p.m. & 8-11 p.m. | DJ sets by French For Horse
