French Language Microsite

The French micro-site is an online guide for Francophone residents to navigate the municipal website. Launched in 2018, it includes currently around 80 French webpages with information about the 311 service, bilingual public service announcements, waste sorting guides and applications, Transit, directory of local Francophone organizations, Regional Council and districts, the Newcomers’ Guide, among others.

311 Service

311 is a toll-free number that residents can call from anywhere within the Halifax region to obtain a wide variety of municipal information and services. Interpretation services in over 150 languages, including French are offered upon request when speaking to a 311 agent.

Bilingual Public Service Announces

Since 2018, news releases, statements and Public Service Announcements produced by the municipality (except those issued by the Halifax Regional Police) have been issued in both English and French.

911 Service

The emergency 911 service is a provincial service, managed by the provincial Emergency Management Office. The 911 Emergency Fact Sheet is available in French.

Online Crime Reporting

Residents can file various online crime reports in French.

Fire Prevention Service

Fire safety tip sheets created by the National Fire Protection Association are available in multiple languages, including French.

Youth Advisory Committee

The Youth Advisory Committee has one seat designated for Acadian and Francophone youth.

Transit

How to Ride: A Guide to Using Halifax Transit is available in multiple languages, including French.

Waste Sorting Application and Guides

The waste sorting application “What Goes Where” and the mobile application “Halifax Recycles Application” are currently available in English, French and Chinese. The Curbside Collection Sorting Guides, the Apartment and Condominium Sorting Guides are available in multiple languages, including French.

Municipal and CSAP School Board Elections

Some information for voters and the Candidate’s Guide to the 2020 Municipal and the CSAP School Board Elections are available in French.
