Common questions
How long did the work take?
Construction took approximately six months to complete (June - December 2018).
What are the new features?
The new space was upgraded with new interior finishes, three divided gathering spaces with accessible seating, improved air conditioning, and an overall enhanced public space for residents to gather.
Why was this work necessary?
The old space had not been updated in over 30 years and was not being maximized to best accommodate the needs of tenants, commuters and the community as a whole.
The revitalized space serves as a hub for gathering and better connects adjoining facilities including the Alderney Ferry Terminal, Alderney Gate Public Library and the Alderney Landing Community Cultural Centre which includes a theatre, art gallery and indoor market.
When will phase 2 begin and what will it include?
Pending budget approval, phase 2 will focus on the Alderney Gate main lobby and library entrance and will be upgraded to create a space that is more modern, fresh and people focused. Further information on the timeline will be available in the coming months.
