When will the project begin and when will it be completed?
Construction will commence on Monday, June 4 and has a targeted completion date of December 2018.
Will this construction be loud and disruptive?
The impact of construction will be mitigated by restricting the demolition to the hours of midnight to 5 a.m. Crews will also be on site during the day, however, access for tenants and the travelling public will be maintained at all times. Hoarding and ventilation will also be in place to minimize dust.
Will access be maintained?
Yes. Access will be maintained at all times. The schedule will allow for phasing of the work so the pedway can remain open for continued passage throughout the project and re-route residents when and where necessary. Signage and barriers will be in place.
What will the new features be?
The new space will be upgraded with features to provide an environment that is more modern, fresh and people focused. Some of the specific elements include new interior finishes, three divided gathering spaces with accessible seating, improved air conditioning, and an overall enhanced public space for residents to gather.
When will phase 2 begin?
Phase 2, which will complete the revitalization, will follow the completion of phase 1. Further details will be available in the coming months.
Why is this work necessary?
The current space has not been updated in over 30 years and is not being maximized to best accommodate the needs of tenants, commuters and the community as a whole.
The revitalized space will serve as a hub for gathering and will also better connect adjoining facilities including the Alderney Ferry Terminal, Alderney Gate Public Library and the Alderney Landing Community Cultural Centre which includes a theatre, art gallery and indoor market.
