Join the Outdoor Navigator Club and discover the wild side of adventure! Designed for youth ages 10-12 who are curious about nature and outdoor skills. This fun and interactive 8-week program introduces participants to wilderness survival, canoeing, hiking, fire building, earth education and more. Each session focuses on hands-on learning and teamwork, with opportunities to earn themed skill badges. Whether you’re just starting out or returning to advance your skills, the Outdoor Navigator Club helps build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of the outdoors, all while having a great time in nature with new friends!

Week 1- September 6th: Nature & Earth Education
  • Introduction to Outdoor Navigators & Badge System
  • “Getting to know you” activities
  • Guided nature play (Nature Explorer Badge)
Week 2- September 13th: Canoeing & Water Safety
  • Learn basic canoe strokes and boat safety
  • Practice paddling techniques and teamwork
  • Identify aquatic wildlife and ecosystems (Canoeing Badge)
Week 3-September 20th: Hiking & Navigation
  • Trail safety and proper hiking techniques
  • Introduction to map reading and compass navigation
  • Identify animal tracks along the trail (Wildlife Tracker Badge)
Week 4-October 11th: Fire Building & Outdoor Cooking
  • Fire safety and responsible fire-making
  • Learn different fire-starting methods
  • Cook a simple outdoor meal over the fire (Fire Safety Badge)
Week 5-October 25th: Shelter Building & Knot Tying
  • Learn essential knots for outdoor survival
  • Build a tarp shelter using knots and natural materials
  • Discuss emergency shelters and their uses (Shelter Architect Badge)
Week 6-November 1st: Survival Skills & First Aid
  • Learn about survival kits and essential items
  • Practice signaling for help and emergency response
  • Basic outdoor first aid scenarios (Outdoor Survival Badge)
Week 7-November 8th: Camping & Overnight Preparedness
  • Learn how to set up a tent and organize a campsite
  • Plan an overnight trip, including gear and safety
  • Leave No Trace principles (Camping Badge)
Week 8-November 15th: Challenge & Celebration Day
  • Participants complete final badge challenges
  • Team navigation challenge and outdoor cooking task
  • Recognition ceremony & badge presentations ( AEC badge)
