
St. Mary’s Boat Club offers canoeing and kayaking programs for all skill levels. Canoeing activities are for people ages 7 and up. Kayaking activities are for people ages 12 and up.
Canoeing
Free canoe rentals
You can take a canoe out from St. Mary’s Boat Club on weekends between June 1 and September 30 free of charge.
• Rentals available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can only borrow a canoe for a maximum of one hour.
• All safety equipment will be provided for you.
When borrowing a canoe, you must:
• Abide by all safety regulations set out by Transport Canada and St. Mary’s Boat Club
• Stay within the Northwest Arm
- Sign a canoe rental consent form
- Provide a current Government issued ID required to borrow the gear
There is no registration for canoe rentals. It is first come first serve.
SUP boards are also available to borrow from the St. Mary's Boat Club from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays for a maximum of 1 hour. First come, first serve. Current Government issued ID required to borrow the gear. From June 1 to September 30, 2017.
Day camps
Children ages 7–16 can join a fun-filled week of canoeing, kayaking and sailing activities at St. Mary’s Boat Club. See the Spring/Summer Catalogue for camp dates, registration times, and pricing.
Adult/youth courses
You can also take part in adult or youth canoe courses in June and September. Refer to the Spring/Summer Catalogue and the Fall/Winter Catalogue for course dates, registrations times, and pricing.
Kayaking
Whether you’re a first timer or already a pro, join Paddle Canada-certified staff on a safe, comfortable, and fun journey. You will follow the shores of the Northwest Arm as you explore the coves and inlets that shape Canada's east coast. Kayaking is for ages 12 and up. All safety equipment will be provided.
To join Paddle Night, you must sign a rental consent form.
Paddle nights
Kayaking paddle nights run throughout the summer for both adults and youth. All events begin and end at St. Mary’s Boat Club.
Adult paddle night
Adults can join in a paddle around the Northwest Arm for $15. Arrive at 5:30 to get your kayak and gear.
June 15–August 31
Paddle night runs from 6–8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
September 1-30
As the days get shorter, the paddle night runs from 6–7:30 p.m., and only on Wednesdays.
Youth paddle night
Youth can join in a free paddle night every Tuesday from July 1–August 31. Come to St. Mary’s Boat Club at 5:30 to get outfitted. Paddles run from 6–7:30 p.m.
Group bookings
Bookings are available for canoes or kayaks from June to September. Call 902.490.4688 to reserve in advance.
Group bookings cost:
• $120 for a two-hour booking for 12 people or less, then $60 for each additional hour.
• $180 for a two-hour booking for 13–18 people, then $90 for each additional hour.
• Same-day cancellation by your group or organization will result in a $60 cancellation fee.
• Payments are due at the time of booking.
Stand Up Paddle Boards
For the months of July and August, we will have free stand up paddle boards available for children and youth. Lifejackets are mandatory and are provided on site. Paddle boards are available at:
- Malay Falls
- Springfield Lake
- Kidston Lake
- Campbell Beach
- Lake Echo
