Lace up and learn how to skate with Halifax Parks & Recreation!
Many levels of skating lessons and public skating sessions are offered. Public Skating is available at the Emera Oval and many of our local arenas. Recreation offers different skating levels to meet every ability - from beginner to advanced, for all ages!
Boots to Blades
Instruction through movement and games adapted to enhance skating skills. This level is for children with no previous skating experience. A parent or guardian must accompany the child on the ice.
Designed for children who are able to stand and shuffle on the ice without help. As the child develops his/her skating skills, there are several different skating programs available to accommodate each participant's needs.
Ongoing assessments will move participants to different levels to ensure the success and safety of everyone in the program.
In season, browse the various programs at halifax.ca/myREC.
Protect your noggin - all participants must wear a CSA approved helmet during skating programs. It is recommended gloves/mittens be worn. Bicycle helmets will not be permitted. Helmet Policy [PDF]
